The
Lab Room opened its doors in 2000 in one of Madrid's most chicest and cosmopolitan neighborhoods. Monica
Ceño Elie-Joseph, creator and owner of The Lab Room, established a 70's stylish space with several cozy rooms where
every beauty need for hair, make-up, facials, massages and waxing were addressed for beauty addicts. It
soon became the hot spot in Madrid for beauty addicts. The treatments were based on natural techniques and used aromatherapy.
It became a pioneer spa by using innovative techniques such as eyebrow design and eyelash extensions, and by offering trendy
lines from the five continents. Claus Porto, Tweezerman, Modelco, Bioresonance or Farmacia S.S Annunziata are some of the
successful lines introduced by The Lab Room into the Spanish market. Quoted by Wallpaper city guides “as an astonishing spa”, and
by Italian Vogue as “the spa of the city offering the most original treatments in the world of beauty care”, the
likes of Jennifer Lopez, Gwyneth Paltrow, Ivana Trump, Natalie Portman, Penelope and Monica Cruz, Esther Cañadas, Gael
García Bernal or Plácido Domingo are only a few names among the celebrities that have trusted their image and
well being to The Lab Room. Mónica Ceño Elie-Joseph (Madrid 1970), received
a Bachelor of Arts in Art History from the Complutense University in Madrid and is currently preparing her thesis for a Doctorate
degree in Contemporary Art. She has lived in New York for a few years and worked at the MoMA and the Guggenheim in New
York. Back in Madrid in 2000, she began to collaborate as a writer for publications Vogue España, Vanidad and
Kapital Magazine and soon decided to create The Lab Room, a beauty day spa that revolutionised the traditional beauty salon
concept. A multispace for beauty and image, with beauty boutique, djs, art exhibitions and beauty services altogether, The
Lab Room became a pioneer in Spain for beauty and image style services. In April 2007,
Mónica published “Desnudas, Aprende a quererte tal y como eres” (Aguilar 2007). The book, which stayed
on the top ten list in Spain for several months, explains to women on how to bring out the best of themselves with basic
rules of exercise, healthy eating, fashion style and image, and exclusive natural beauty recipes. . Mónica
Ceño’s latest accomplishment to the Spanish beauty sector is The Lab Room Beauty Collection, a niche cosmetic
brand. Mónica likes to define her products as emotional cosmetics that transforms you on the inside and the outside,
thanks to their Botanical and Aromatherapy synergetic formulas. In september 2008 she launched her collection of parfums
